Ruka has attracted outdoor enthusiasts long before the first ski lift was opened. Back then, the first backcountry skiers enjoyed the pristine slopes. The first 300-meter-long ski lift was completed on the slopes of Ruka Fell in 1957.
Since then, the range of services and opportunities in the Ruka area has expanded enormously, transforming it into a year-round destination that attracts visitors for all kinds of outdoor adventures. Ruka has always been deeply connected to the nature and culture of the Arctic region. The first cross-country ski tracks begin right in front of our hotel. If you’re still feeling a bit wobbly on skis or a snowboard, fear not — Ruka has a top-notch ski school that will help you improve your skills on both the slopes and cross-country trails.
